The 76th Annual International Communication Association (ICA) Conference is a premier global forum for scholars to address the theme of "Communication and Inequalities" in our increasingly digital era.
Aleksandra Zheleva will present her research on the unique social dynamics of Social Virtual Reality (SVR) and the paradox of "Toxic Resilience." Her work examines how the same immersive affordances that create a sense of deep presence also facilitate visceral digital harm, exploring why users often normalize and persist through harassment in these embodied spaces to maintain their social connections.
